General Information: Training
Who is this training for?
These training events are designed for two age groups on two separate days:
Group #1: participants aged 15-20 years old
Group #2: participants aged 21-30 years old
When is this training?
There will be 2 training days for different age groups:
Saturday, October 26, 2024: Group #1Sunday, October 27, 2024: Group #2
Is the training just one day?
Yes, each participant will only be attending one day of training that corresponds to their age group. Each training event is held on one day.
Where will the training take place?
Both training events will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Vientiane in the Lane Xang Room The address is: Building A, Nongduang Nua Village, 20 Rue Samsenthai, Vientiane 01000, Laos
What is the deadline to register for the training?
Both training events are full. We do not have space for any additional participants for either training events at this time. We are not currently accepting new registration submissions.

If we have space for you to join us, we will contact you as soon as possible.
Do I need prior experience in grant writing?
No. No prior experience is necessary. The training is designed to guide you through the basics of grant writing, but an intermediate knowledge of English is strongly preferred.
How long is each day of training?
Each day of training will be approximately 8 hours, from 8:30 AM – 5 PM.
Is it free to attend the training event?
Yes! Once you have completed your free registration to attend a training event, it is completely free to attend.
Will meals be provided?
Yes! A buffet lunch and 2 snack breaks (coffee, tea, and desserts) will be provided to all participants free of charge. There will also be free-flowing coffee and tea.
What materials should I bring?
We will provide all necessary materials during the training. However, feel free to bring a notebook, pen, or any device for taking notes if you prefer.
Since portions of our training will involve reading and writing, please be invited to bring or wear any reading glasses you use for these purposes.
Can I attend both training days?
No. Participants are expected to attend the session designed for their age group to ensure the content is appropriate and tailored.
If you have registered for both training sessions, you must attend the one that corresponds to your current age at the time of the training. Your other registration will be removed from our registration system.
If you cannot attend the training that corresponds to your age, please contact us via email at info@micrograntmentorshipproject.org to let us know you can no longer attend the training.
What do I wear to the training?
You can wear clothes that are comfortable and make you feel your best.
Please dress appropriately, because there will be photos taken throughout and at the end of the event!
Can I bring a friend or family member with me?
Due to limited venue capacity, we are unable to accommodate friends or family members that are not registered as a participant.
I can’t stay the whole length of the training. What should I do?
We highly encourage you to stay for the whole training. If you need to leave early, please do not consider leaving earlier than 3:30 PM.

What will I learn during this training?
The training will focus on teaching participants how to brainstorm and write effective grant proposals in English. You will learn the basics of grant writing, including ideation, how to structure a grant proposal, communicate your project goals, budget for your project, and much more.
I don’t know what I’m passionate about, but I like helping people. Should I attend this training?
Yes! We encourage all participants who want to help their communities join. We will be covering ideation and how to brainstorm ideas, so no need to worry if you do not yet know what you’re passionate about.
I have a passion but I’m not sure how it will turn into a project. Will this training help me?
Yes! The training will focus on teaching participants how to brainstorm and write effective grant proposals in English. You’ll learn the basics of grant writing, including ideation, how to structure a grant proposal, and effectively communicate your project goals.
I have an existing passion for a specific topic and I have already led initiatives related to it. Will this training help me think about how to develop my own project?
Yes! If you are already working on a project, we highly recommend you attend the training and apply for micro-grant funding to expand your project reach. In addition, we will also be teaching you how to effectively structure and budget for your project, and clearly communicate your project goals.
I lead my own project and want to secure funding for it. Will this training help me find funding for it?
Yes! If your project is already in progress, you can still apply for the micro-grant funding to expand or enhance it, as long as it aligns with the funding guidelines. We will also teach you how to structure a grant proposal and effectively communicate your project goals, as well as budgeting for your project.
What are the benefits of joining the training?
The benefits are innumerable. You will learn the basics of brainstorming, budgeting, and applying for grants in English. Furthermore, you will also get to meet other youth and young professionals who share the same passion for community service and youth development!
In addition, you will receive a complimentary lunch, snacks, beverages, notebook, pencil, event t-shirt, certificate of participation, and photos of you and the memories you made at the training!
After the training, you will also have the opportunity to use what you learned at the training and apply for micro-grant funding for a project of your own!
Can I take pictures or videos at the event?
Yes! We will have a photographer during the training event, but you are also encouraged to also take photos and videos for keepsake.
Language of Training
Will the training only be in English?
Yes, as the training focuses on grant writing in English, the training will be held in English.
Will you provide translation to Lao during the training?
We are unfortunately unable to provide translation into Lao. There will be handouts of all training materials for ease of access. There will be Youth Ambassadors as well as other project team members around throughout the training should you have specific questions.
My English isn’t very good. Should I join this training?
Due to the fast-paced nature of the training, we strongly recommend participants have at least an intermediate understanding of English. Due to the content of the training, advanced English language learners will benefit the most from the training content.
Traveling to the Training/Travel Logistics
Will there be transportation to the training?
No. Each participant is responsible for arranging travel to the training by themselves.
To help offset the cost of travel to and from the training, we will provide all participants with a travel equity stipend.
Will there be any support for traveling to the training?
Yes! All participants will receive a travel equity stipend to help cover travel expenses.
Based on your response to the question on your mode of transportation to the event, each participant will receive a corresponding travel equity stipend in United States dollar (USD).
We encourage carpooling where possible.
What is a travel equity stipend?
We know the cost of attendance for this training is free, but we also understand that it is not free to travel from place to place.
We are committed to eliminating barriers to attendance for any youth registered for this training, especially students, those traveling from far-away villages, and those operating on limited funds at this time.
The travel equity stipend is provided to cover travel expenses for participants to ensure they are not limited in transportation to be able to attend.
If I am traveling with a group in the same car, will the entire group receive their own travel equity stipend or do we only receive one by sharing transportation?
If you are traveling with a group, each participant in your group that is registered as a training participant will receive their own travel equity stipend. You do not lose your travel equity stipend by sharing the same mode of transportation to the training together.
Every participant will receive a travel equity stipend.
How do I apply for the travel equity stipend?
You do not apply. You receive one automatically by attending the training.
Once the training has ended, a member of our team will collect your public banking information (BCEL QR) and ensure the travel equity stipend has been directly transferred to your account.
Only participants who registered and signed in will receive a travel equity stipend. When you arrive at the training, please be sure to sign in with a member of our team.
How much is the travel equity stipend?
The total travel equity stipend per participant varies by your mode of transportation (in USD):
Motorbike or car (round trip): $15.00
Rideshare (LOCA, Indrive, etc.) (round trip): $25.00
Micro-Grant Projects & Funding
After the training, what happens next?
After the training events, all participants of the training events are eligible to apply for micro-grant funding for their own projects aimed at benefiting their local community.
We hope this is an opportunity to use what you learned at the training to turn your ideas into action and design, budget, implement, monitor, and manage a project that you are passionate about with funding!
We also hope this is an opportunity to build a resume of experience that shows you can effectively manage a project budget in order to gain future funding opportunities.
What is a micro-grant project?
A micro-grant project is a small-scale project that aims to address a specific community need or goal. Each individual or group can apply for funding to implement a project that benefits their community. The grant amount is designed to help support the implementation of the project.
When do I apply for a micro-grant?
You can apply for a micro-grant following the English Project Proposal Writing Training. The application cycle will be open for two weeks
The application cycle will open beginning on Sunday, October 27 when the final day of training concludes.
The application cycle will close on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
Can I participate in the training if I don’t have a micro-grant group yet?
Yes! You don’t need to have a project or a group in place before the training.
The sessions will include many opportunities to meet other participants and form groups to start a project together.
If I am a Youth Ambassador, am I eligible to apply for micro-grant funding?
Yes! Youth Ambassadors are eligible to apply for funding.
Do I need to attend the training to be considered for the micro-grant funding?
You do not need to attend the training to apply for the micro-grant funding, but at least one of your group members MUST have attended one of the two training sessions for your group to be considered for the funding. In other words, at least one member of your team must have attended our training.
How much funding can my group apply for?
The grant funding will be for an amount, as stated in your proposal, between $50.00 and $350.
What kind of projects are eligible for the micro-grant funding?
Projects should focus on addressing a community need, creating positive social and communal impact, or contributing to a meaningful cause. These projects must also be led by Lao youth and young professionals between the ages of 15-30 years old.
Is there a deadline to submit the micro-grant project proposal?
Yes, the deadline to submit your micro-grant project proposal is Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 11:59 PM, Vientiane time.
Is it beneficial to submit my micro-grant project proposal as early as possible?
No. The review committee will evaluate all application submissions together once the deadline has passed. You will not be more likely or less likely to be selected because you submitted your application early. Please submit your application when you feel it is complete and best reflects your project goals ahead of the deadline.
Can I apply for a micro-grant individually?
Yes, you can apply individually, or in groups of up to 5 people.
Please note that you are permitted to apply for micro-grant funding for a project without a group if you have a project you can design, budget, implement, monitor, and manage by yourself.
How many people can be in my micro-grant group?
We ask that you limit your group members to a maximum of 5 people.
How will the micro-grant projects be selected for funding?
After submitting your group’s proposal, a review committee will assess each application based on its feasibility, impact, and alignment with community needs. Selected projects will be awarded funding.
Is there a maximum number of applications you will accept?
No. We will accept and review all applications that are received before the stated deadline.
When will the micro-grant winners be announced?
The winners will be announced approximately 1 week after the submission deadline.
What happens if our project is selected for funding?
If your project is selected, you will receive the micro-grant funds and will be expected to implement your project within a set timeline. You will also be asked to submit a report and present the outcomes of your projects once accomplished.
Can groups apply for more than one micro-grant?
No, each group is only eligible to apply for one micro-grant. We encourage groups to focus on developing one strong project. We will not consider duplicate submissions.
Can we use the micro-grant for ongoing projects?
Yes, if your project is already in progress, you can apply for micro-grant funding to scale or enhance your initiatives as long as they align with the funding guidelines. We encourage you to consider this funding to develop new initiatives under your project that align with the mission of your existing work.
